Top Bryss Maths: Extreme Black Reach List Building

Well now, I suppose I'd better start costing stuff out for the Assault of Black Vengeance on Dark Reach fight. Feel free to ignore this post, as I'm just numbers thrashing. On the other hand, because I'm writing this down as it comes into my head, it's a good look at how my mind works.

For those who can't be bothered with working, here's the souped-up Black Reach list, ready to take their crown back.

Ruthless Casual: Am I Scythe-Blind? (Part 2)

Last time (yesterday's post, not hard to find) I told you what happened when I brought a mix of Orks and Daemons against a Purecrons (Purecrons? Monocrons? Either works.) list and may or may not have worried too much about Doom Scythes. Today, I decide whether or not this is right.

After the jump, of course. Provided I remember to put it in.

Ruthless Casual: Am I Scythe-Blind? (Part 1)

Here I am again, writing my gaming column. Today's topic revolves around an interesting point 'Scape made at the end of our last game. Am I Scythe blind? Am I too focused on killing Scythes and not focused enough on actually trying to win? Let's find out, after the jump.

Fantasy Miniature to 40k Miniature- The Small Things

As you know, I'm rather a big fan of Fantasy's range of plastic characters, and I already converted the plastic Necromancer into a Sanctioned Psyker. I decided to do it again, this time converting the Empire Master Engineer into a Malleus Inquisitor with hellrifle. For comparison, let's look at the original model.

I'll tell you what needs to go after the jump.

Silliness Bonus: Helbrute, The Slaughterer

Here's a stupid thought I had regarding the Helbrute. It probably makes no sense to anyone but me, but I'm blogging it anyway.

Weekend Silliness: Well, I like Black Reach, but I also like Dark Vengeance. But which is best? There's only one way to find out...

I have now lived through the release of two 40k starter boxes, both of which represented excellent value in their time. But I want to know something; what if the inhabitants of Black Reach got hacked off at being replaced, and teamed up to reclaim their starter box crown?

After the jump, we'll weigh up the contenders.

Rules Review: Chaos Daemons Stuff

Yes, yes, I get it, I get it, I'm late. I don't care. I'm going through these units, because they're important. These are the first 40k rulesets to emerge from 6th Edition. Let's examine them, quick-fire style.

Woohoo, remembered the jump break today!

Post now edited and cleansed of Save errors.

RulesMan: The Force Chart Plural

The expanded 2000 point Force Organisation Chart has been a sticking point for many, as it inevitably was going to be. By this point, many people have wailed on it from the gamer's perspective, and so I feel like it is now my turn to do this.

Wail. Wail wail. Wail wail wail.

There, I feel much better. Now to look at it from a design perspective. After the jump. It's good, lengthy and has a snazzy diagram.

The End Of The Bryssbing Saga (An Open Letter To Mercer)

Dear Mr Mercer, (Blade Runner reference?),

Having taken the time to examine my idea of 'artistic' handwriting, it is with great frustration that I must conclude that the 'L' in 'Bryssling' does look rather like a 'B', due to a particularly artsy flick that went a wee bit too far.

As such, we at Casual Rules Bryssling of a Ruthless Mind Manufactorum (ie, myself and the puppets) have taken the action of greying over the offending curl in a popular graphic alteration application, in order to prevent future generations from believing themselves to be illiterate morons.

The Revenge Of Weekend Silliness: What's In A Name?

It's time for Weekend Silliness, which existed before all this Let's Play nonsense. This week, it will be done in Musings format, before being later interpreted through the Dance Du Crossaints popular in St. Malo. Maybe.

Blast, forgot the jump break again. Right, now it's in.

Random Dungeon Encounter! Again!

M-hmm. We're back in Super Dungeon Explore Land. I've even ordered Candy and Cola, such is my affection for this game. A Top Bryss is in the scripting stage. Anyway, I've finished more stuff, namely the Kobold Flingers.

Yes, once again there are four, allowing me to do a multiple perspective shot thingy. Note that I actually bothered to ink these ones, as otherwise the bandages would look rubbish. Ground level shot time!

After the jump. Oh, and I did the Paladin too, so click and sucklike.

Another Game Of Sixth!

Well, that took longer than I thought it would. Now I can finally stop whining about how annoying this edition is and start thinking properly again. It's probably to do with not owning the bloody book and bloody flyers yet.

Anyway, I tried out a Necrorks list this time, as it's supposed to be a decent combo. Ended up with:

Bryss' Necrorks- 1500

Overlord with Warscythe
Catacomb Command Barge with Gauss Cannon
Royal Court: 1 Cryptek with Destruction and Solar Pulse, 1 with Despair and Veil of Darkness.
Illuminor Szeras
Big Mek on Warbike with Bosspole
10 Immortals with Gauss Blasters
5 Warriors in a Ghost Ark
10 Shoota Boyz with Rokkit Launcha
Wartrukk with Red Paint
5 Lootas and 3 Meks with Big Shoota
3 Deffkoptas with twin-linked Rokkit Launcha
5 Flash Gitz with More Dakka, Shootier and Kaptin Badrukk

Battle summary thingy after the jump. Warning! Said summary is messed up by Firefox. Use IE to get the full effect. I can't speak for other browsers as I don't use an…

Rules Review: Forge World's Canoptek Acanthrites

It's time to do more RulesMan stuff around here! Starting with a review of Forge World's new and rather snazzy looking Canoptek thingy. Experimental rules are here and Bryss & 'Scape Inc is here.

The first thing that springs to mind when looking at this thing is that it's rather like a Wraith, however on closer inspection the only thing they really share is aesthetic design and their Jump Infantry type. The Acanthrite has one better Toughness (which means it doesn't die to missiles and other sundry S8) and one more Wound, at the cost of losing the handy Wraithflight power and the Phase Shifter, as well as having one less attack.

Next, I'll explain their special trick. After this jump.

More Super Dungeon Explore!

Carrying on with Paint Something Different Month, here's some more Dungeon Explore WIPS, namely the Kobold Warrens Spawning Point and one of the Kobold Ogres. Visit Bryss & 'Scape Inc.

Kobold Warrens

Because there are four of them, I only need to take one picture to show off what I've done. How clever. Anyway, like my Egg Clutch, the main colour is a monotone grey, however unlike the Egg Clutch, I've filled in the gaps with Meph Red to get a sort of blood flow thing going. Kobold Ogre pics after the jump.

I Actually Finished Something! (And Started Another WIP Inquisitor)

Remember all the way back in April when I got my hands on five classic Destroyers, painted one and then didn't finish the other four? Well...

Yep, they're all finished now. Shame Szeras isn't. Incidentally, I'm still finalising the schemes for my Plague Marines and Death Cultists, hence the one test model for each unit. Find out how I got myself motivated to do it after the juVISITBRYSSANDSCAPEINC.

Whoa, no idea what happened there.

GW's New Mephiston Red & Super Dungeon Explore

When I said I'd write a post about red paint, I meant it. Anyway, I needed a new flesh tone so I decided now was a good time to buy more paint. Since my Mechrite Red is running pretty low, I figured I'd need to find some sort of new red. So, I now have a pot of GW Mephiston Red. For a shade comparison, see below.
The Wyrmling on the left is Mechrite Red, the CSM in the middle is Blood Red and the Kobold Ogre on the right is Mephiston Red. My opinion is that it's a bit darker than Blood Red but not as pinkish as Mechrite Red. Coverage is pretty good, so I think I'll roll it out for the rest of my Kobolds.

More painted stuff after the jump.

Ruthless Casual: Right Now, I Prefer Fifth

A few days ago, I had my second game of Sixth. It was a 1250 point game versus 'Scape's Necrons, with the following lists:

Chimera with Searchlight
5-man Strike Squad with psycannon
Company Command Squad with Camo Cloaks
Platoon Command Squad
2x Infantry Squad with Grenade Launcher and Missile Launcher
2x Heavy Weapons Team with Autocannons
4 Ratlings
Leman Russ

'Scape's Necrons
Destroyer Lord with Sempiternal Weave
2x 15 Warriors with Night Scythe
Triarch Stalker
