A long time Inquisitor of the Ordo Xenos and pupil of Inquisitor Eisenhorn, Ravenor was left interred in a force chair after the events on Thracian Primaris. This has only served to amplify his considerable psychic ability and allows him to still act as an Inquisitor. Over the years he has acquired a powerful retinue, some members came to him after leaving Eisenhorn, others he found on his travels. They have spent the past years investigating the strange artefacts known as Flects.
Gideon Ravenor and his retinue may be taken as a HQ choice in Inquisitorial armies, and as an Allied HQ choice in Space Marine and Imperial Guard armies. Alternatively, his retinue may be taken as an Elites choice.
Cost (Ravenor): 90 points
Cost (Retinue): 180 points
*Indicates an Invulnerable Save
Unit Composition: (Ravenor), Kara Swole, Patience Kys, Medicae Belknap, Zeph Mathuin, Harlon Nayl, Carl Thonius. All but Ravenor and Slyte use the Retinue profile.
Unit Type: Infantry
Wargear: Ravenor has a Force Chair. Patience Kys is armed with Kineblades. Nayl has a Boltgun. Mathuin has a Rotator Cannon. Belknap has a laspistol and Medi-pack. All other retinue members have a laspistol and close combat weapon. All Retinue members wear carapace armour. Slyte has no wargear and is counted as having a single close combat weapon.
Force Chair: Ravenor’s Force Chair amplifies his psychic powers. He counts as having a Psychic Hood and rolls 3D6 and discards the highest when taking Psychic checks. It also confers a 4+ Invulnerable Save.
Kineblades: Kys wields these using telepathy. They are a pair of close combat weapons that are Rending when in use.
Rotator Cannon: Has the following profile:
Medi-pack: As squad medic, while Belknap is alive he grants the Feel No Pain special rule to the squad.
Psyker (Ravenor): Ravenor has the Purgatus power from Codex: Witch Hunters, however he is able to reduce the Leadership of squads as well as characters. When rolling the D6 for squads, use the highest Leadership value available to that squad.
Psyker (Kys): Kys is a telepath, able to lift a man with her mind and push him back. During the start of the Assault Phase, Kys may use her telepathy instead of attacking with her kineblades. Choose a single enemy model with a Toughness of 5 or less and make an Initiative test. If Kys passes the test, the enemy model is pushed back. It suffers a Strength 3 hit and may not attack in this round of combat.
Acrobatic (Kara Swole): Before joining Ravenor Kara worked as a gymnast. She has a 5+ Invulnerable Save.
Bonds of Love (Kara and Belknap): Kara Swole and Belknap are very much in love, and will lose control should one be killed. If either Swole or Belknap die, the other gains the Preferred Enemy rule.
The Daemon Within (Thonius): Within the body of Carl Thonius lies Slyte, a powerful Daemon of Chaos. Should Thonius be killed, Slyte will awaken. Place Thonius’ model 2” away from the squad and replace his profile with the profile for Slyte. From that point the Slyte model will act as follows:
During the Movement Phase, Slyte will either move towards the nearest unit (of any type) and attempt to assault, or move towards the unit which killed Thonius and attempt to assault if that unit is alive. Slyte is a Monstrous Creature and has the Fleet and Eternal Warrior special rules.
Acolytes: Thonius is Ravenor’s Acolyte, and so follows the normal rules for Acolytes (taking a single Wound in place of Ravenor.) Nayl is completely loyal to Ravenor and he may also do this.
Inquisitorial Operatives: Inquisitors and their retinue are often tasked with the retrieval of something or to defend a priceless artefact with their lives. The entire squad is a Scoring Unit.
Each model in the unit is different for the purpose of Wound Allocation. Praise be to Dan Abnett for giving me such good material to work with.
Note: [Spoiler Warning - ed]This version of Ravenor’s team is based around what it was like in Book 2, while Mathuin was still alive, although Belknap only became a permanent member in the third book (artistic license used here). I haven’t included Frauka, Zael, etc as they usually stayed put somewhere. Although it would probably have been fun to write long winded rules for Unwerth.
