Rules by Master Bryss
Throughout the years of 241.M40 to 835.M41 Deathwatch Squad A-2 were faithful servants of the Ordo Xenos. Led by Radical Inquisitor Bastian Volvus, the squad consisted of him and 5 Astartes plucked from various chapters.
The squad’s makeup has varied over 594 years of service, however three of the members, Raiga of the White Scars, Telx of the Invaders and Iucundus of the Centurions survived the full tour, completing 6 missions together and helping to build Inquisitorial relations with their Chapters.
Squad A-2 is bought as a Troops choice for 300 points in Imperial armies. It always consists of 6 members. The squad is chosen as follows:
  • Volvus is always included.
  • Raiga, Telx and Iucundus are always included. Each has the Deathwatch profile.
  • Take eitherBanquous or Kane. Each as the Sergeant profile.
  • Take either Selvus, Quadrus or Lemech. Each uses the Special profile.

Unit: As above.
Unit Type: Infantry.
Wargear:
Volvus: Carapace armour, witchblade, bolt pistol
Raiga, Telx and Iucundus: Boltgun with special issue ammunition, bolt pistol, close combat knife.
Selvus: Heavy bolter (with Hellfire Shells), bolt pistol.
Quadrus: Plasma cannon, bolt pistol
Lemech: Meltagun, bolt pistol.
Banquous: Plasma pistol, power fist, melta bombs.
Kane: Pair of Lightning Claws with built-in Bolt Pistol.
The entire unit has Frag and Krak grenades.
Special Rules:
Suffer Not The Xeno To Live: The entire squad has Preferred Enemy against all alien species. (Orks, Eldar of both types, Tyranids, Necrons, Tau.)
Synchronised Fire: Over 594 years the three core squad members perfected synchronised firing against any target. So long as at least two of the bolter-armed Deathwatch are alive, they re-roll all To Wound rolls made with boltguns.
Special Weapons: Quadrus, Selvus and Lemech all modified their weapons in some way. Selvus may fire his slightly lighter Heavy Bolter on the move, but at the reduced BS of 3. If Quadrus rolls  Gets Hot on his plasma cannon, the weapon cannot fire but he need not make a save. If Lemech is shooting a target within 6”, he fire 2 shots with his meltagun.
Sergeants: Both Banquous and Kane were Sergeants, and both have slightly differing measures of discipline. If Kane is in the squad, it is Stubborn. If Banquous is in the squad, it may re-roll Morale and Pinning checks.
Radical Volvus: Volvus is not above taking enemy weapons for his own use. If he kills a model, he may choose to switch either his pistol or his witchblade for one of the enemy’s weapons. This includes weapons carried by Special Characters!

Man I am in awe of these rules. I don't know if they're balanced and honestly I'm not sure I care. I want these guys in every game I play.

Ran some numbers, then added +1 Attacl to the Deathwatch and Special. They are veterans after all.

I really enjoy this unit. It's non-streamlined nature is great, although remembering all the rules during play can be intimidating at first. I decided to try them out not too long ago and found I had to keep a print out of their rules handy to remember who got the modified relentless rule, who got to shoot two melta rounds, etc. Radical Volvus has to be, in my opinion, one of the most unique characters to date. I was able to steal a wailing doom off an Avatar and use it to splat anyone who was brave enough or foolish enough to enter my 12" deathzone.
